The Security Division, formerly known as the Security Unit, was set up in January 1998 when the Idris   Institute of Education (IPSI) was upgraded to ‘University’. The primary purpose of setting up the Security Unit is to safeguard university students and staff’s safety, protect university property, and ensure the university’s safety is   under control.

The Security Unit took full responsibility in August 1998. The security control was entrusted to the administration of UPSI and IPSI with the strength of a Security Assistant (KP8), five UPSI Security Guard (KP10) and four IPSI guardians (R11).

This unit is reinforced by the addition of staff at the Officer level. In March 2001, the unit received an Assistant  Security Officer (KP27), where it assumed full responsibility for administering the unit. For smooth operation of the unit, the unit received a Security Officer (KP41) and Security Assistant (KP17) in April 2003.

In December 2004, this unit received another Assistant Security Officer (KP27), where he was assigned to maintain traffic and traffic control at the university. In February 2007, this unit received another Security Assistant (KP17) for strict supervision purposes at the university. It smoothed its unit operations, and in September 2007, this   unit received an Administrative Assistant (Clerical / Operation) to launch another administrative unit.

Security guards  (KP14 and KP11) units are increasing in tandem with the needs and rapid development of the university and the growing number of staff and students, which require more secure security control. On June 02 2008, the Security Unit received the entry of a new KP44 Security Officer as Head of Security Unit to lead the unit.

Starting March 01, 2012, the Security Unit is upgraded to the Security Division. This is in line with the addition of several Faculties in UPSI and the Security Guard membership that began here. Along with the current changes in uniformed units, this unit changes according to the everyday suitability and symbolizes unit members who are neatly    dressed and tidy.
